Pharmacology and Mechanism of Action
Beta-lactam antibiotic. Ampicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Ampicillin has a narrow spectrum of activity that is similar to that of amoxicillin.
Pharmacokinetics of ampicillin indicated that the half-life is approximately 1- 1.5 hours in most animals. When the trihydrate formulation is injected IM, it produces a lower peak concentration but a longer half-life of 6.7 hours in cattle.

Indications and Clinical Uses
Ampicillin is indicated in patients with infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as skin and soft tissue infections, UTIs, and pneumonia.

Dogs

Cats
• 10-20 mg/kg q12-24h IM or SQ.
Large Animal Dosage

Cattle and Calves

• 4.4 to 11 mg/kg q24h IM.

Cloxacillin

Cloxacillin is similar in spectrum and activity as amoxicillin. Cloxacillin in combination with Ampicillin in  will provide better Synergistic Bactericidal effect against Gram+ve, Gram-veas well as Beta Lactamase & Penicillinase. Cloxacillin has the greatest antimicrobial activity in its group against Penicillinase producting resistant strain of Staphylococcus ahreus the notorious causative organism of mastitis.
