Ondansetron (2mg/5ml)
Pharmacology and Mechanism of Action
Ondansetron is a medication that belongs to a group of drugs called serotonin antagonists. These drugs work by blocking the action of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the body. In the case of ondansetron, it specifically targets serotonin type 3 (5-HT3) receptors. By blocking these receptors, ondansetron helps to prevent nausea and vomiting.
Indications and Clinical Uses
While ondansetron can also be helpful for nausea and vomiting caused by other factors, its primary use is to prevent chemotherapy-induced vomiting.
