Activated Charcoal

 

Pharmacology and Mechanism of Action
Adsorbent. It will bind to other drugs and prevent their absorption from the intestine. It may reduce the absorption of a poison by as much as 75%.

Indications and Clinical Uses
Used primarily to adsorb drugs and toxins in intestine to prevent their absorption. Ordinarily, a single dose is administered, but multiple doses will increase clearance of drugs that may undergo enterohepatic circulation.

Contraindications and Precautions
Used primarily as treatment for intoxication. Drug Interactions Charcoal will adsorb most other drugs administered orally to prevent their absorption.

Instructions for Use
Activated charcoal is effective to treat intoxication if administered up to 4 hours after exposure, but after 4 hours, benefits decrease. Charcoal is available in a variety of forms and usually is used as a treatment for
poisoning.

Repeat dose after 12 hours.

Poisoning 3-4 times of suggested usage & repeat after 4-6 hours 1or 24 hours or as directed by the Veterinarian.

DOSAGE

Adult Cattle, Buffalo, Horse & Camel:

0.5-1 ml. per kg. body weight Calf, Sheep & Goat: 1-2 ml. per kg. body weight

Dog & Cat: 2-3 ml. per kg. body weight Repeat dosage after 12 hours or as needed, or as directed by the veterinarian.
